England international Carroll was on target twice against Swansea City at the Boleyn Ground last weekend, as the Hammers eased to a 3-1 victory in the Premier League.
The former Liverpool and Newcastle United striker could start against Sunderland at the Stadium of Light today, and Owen predicts that he will score.
“It was great to see Andy Carroll back amongst the goals against Swansea on Sunday and, as a boyhood Newcastle fan, nothing would give him greater pleasure than to find the back of the net against Sunderland,” he wrote on Betvictor.com.
“The Black Cats are struggling for goals of late and have failed to score in seven of their last 11 PL games. It promises to be another tight game but a fit and confident Carroll is a real handful.”
Given that form that Carroll has been since his recent return from a long-term injury and West Ham’s current run of results, Owen’s prediction could come true.
However, winning at the Stadium of Light will not be easy for West Ham. It promises to be a competitive match, and one suspects that a single goal could prove to be the difference.
