Martin Keown has named three Newcastle United players who could be a problem for Arsenal today.
Keown’s former club Arsenal will host the Magpies at the Emirates Stadium in the Premier League this evening.
The Gunners will be expected by many to win the contest and build on their 4-1 hammering of Galatasaray away from home in the Champions League in midweek.
However, Newcastle will head into the game on the back of a 2-1 victory over Chelsea at St. James’ Park last weekend, and Keown has urged the Gunners not to get complacent.
“They're the form team," the Englishman told Premierleague.com. "They just seem to go from strength to strength. I was quite stunned by that result. They were hanging on in the end but all credit to them to go 2-0 up.
“[Fabricio] Coloccini has come in at the back with [Steven] Taylor and formed a strong defensive barrier. They were quite naive in their defending at first but they seem to have ironed that out.
“[Papiss] Cisse has been weighing in with his goals and there's lots of youngsters coming in and doing well, so it's more about momentum that you have.”
Newcastle have been very ‘mean’ defensively in recent games, and that has been key to their success.
Against Arsenal today, one would expect Alan Pardew’s side to defend strongly and not give the opposition much space to work with.
However, playing at home will given Arsenal an advantage, and one would expect the Gunners to pick up all three points today.
