Manchester United midfielder Michael Carrick has been speaking to the club’s official programme ahead of Sunday’s clash with Liverpool.
United are enjoying a fine run of form of late, which has seen them record five straight victories and climb up to third in the Premier League table as a result.
But a clash with Liverpool is never an easy proposition and Carrick – who has been integral to United’s great form – knows there is a very long way to go.
In comments later published by the club’s official website, the England international said, “It would be easy for me to say everything will be rosy and that we’re going to be really successful, but it’s not as easy as that. We have to work hard.”
United had a faltering start under Louis van Gaal but they have turned things around with victories against Crystal Palace, Arsenal, Hull City, Stoke City and Southampton in recent times.
If they can make that six wins on the bounce against Liverpool the confidence will increase further and few would then be able to discard them from a title race that looked beyond them just a few weeks ago.
But what does Carrick think about the prospect of this United side challenging for the league crown?
“If we are in or around the top by Christmas or January then we are right in there with a chance,” Carrick said.
He has featured in United’s last five matches and his impact cannot be overstated, so van Gaal will be hoping the midfielder stays fit for the vital matches ahead.
