Garry Monk rules out Newcastle Gomis move: 'I want him here'

Bafetimbi Gomis v Brest

The Swansea boss has ruled out the possibility of a January exit for the striker - reportedly a target for the Magpies.

Swansea City boss Garry Monk has ruled out a January exit for striker Bafetimbi Gomis.

Recent reports have suggested Gomis has a £7 million release clause, something that could tempt Newcastle into the market.

According to WalesOnline, meanwhile, Newcastle and Crystal Palace have both been linked with a January move for the Swansea striker.

But Monk has no such plans...

“We’re not looking at letting him go. We want him here and it is not in my plans to move him on," the Swansea boss told reporters.

“Of course it’s been difficult for him because he’s not a young kid, he’s an established player with a good pedigree who has played and scored a lot in every season.

“And a player like that doesn’t want to spend time on the bench, they want to play and I understand that.

“When teams see a player of that quality haven’t played much they might look at him as a possible target and there will be speculation – but I want him here.”
