We take a look at three Manchester United players who have starred so far this season.
As they approach the halfway point in the Premier League season things are looking up for Manchester United.
Louis van Gaal’s side are currently third in the table after a run of five straight wins saw them move to within five points of reigning champions Manchester City and eight points of current league leaders Chelsea.
That is still quite a gap, but United are building momentum and it will be interesting to see how they perform in the second half of the campaign.
Here we take a look at three United players who have performed well up to this point and have to be considered as potential winners of their Player of the Season award.
David de Gea
Spanish goalkeeper David de Gea is the most obvious candidate for the award given his simply outstanding performances to date.
The stopper has been nothing short of sensational behind an ever-changing defence and he has already saved them a number of points.
It is vital United tie him down to a new long-term deal because at this rate he has the potential to one day be spoken of in the same breath as Peter Schmeichel and Edwin van der Sar.
United captain Wayne Rooney has scored five goals in 11 appearances this season but it is his all-round contribution that continues to impress.
Some will always say Rooney does not do enough but he does, time and again, and already this season the 29-year-old has played as a centre-forward, an attacking midfielder and a left-winger.
He will play wherever he is asked to and he is vital to this United side.
It is no surprise whatsoever that United’s impressive run of form has corresponded with the return from injury of Michael Carrick.
The England international missed the first seven matches of the season and spent the next two on the bench. But in his only five starts of the campaign to date United have tasted five straight victories.
Carrick is an underrated but vital component of this United side.
