The Andros Townsend statistic that will infuriate Spurs fans

Andros Townsend

The Tottenham Hotspur winger produced another toothless display in Europe last night.

Another chance given to Andros Townsend last night produced yet another flat performance against Besiktas in the Europa League.

Tottenham fans must wonder why Mauricio Pochettino bothers.

Since he broke onto the scene last season, Townsend has flattered to deceive to the extreme, offering so little whenever the north London side have needed him most.

During his breakthrough period last term, the young winger would cut inside, go for a shot and change the game for England, often offering the exact same end product for Spurs.

Except that was it. Townsend would offer up his Plan A and Tottenham fans would think 'okay, that's a great start, now let's see what else he's got.' But nothing came. Time after time after time after time, the 23-year-old cuts inside, produces a direct pass and wastes it.

This campaign, Townsend has hardly made any impact whatsoever. And that is best shown by one telling statistic from last night's 1-0 loss to Besiktas.

Indeed, the winger attempted no less than eight crosses against the Turkish side, according to WhoScored.com. Just one was accurate.

Where exactly is Townsend's end product or value? It seems Spurs fans will continue to be infuriated by the 23-year-old's displays until the club finally give up on him.
