With that in mind a left-back was always going to be on the agenda for the Chelsea boss this summer.
The likes of Southampton’s Luke Shaw and VfL Wolfsburg’s Swiss star Ricardo Rodriguez were linked as was that of Lazio wing-back Senad Lulic.
The Bosnian international was said to be available at £9 million from the capital club. But he was considered to attacking a defender for Mourinho's tastes, and Filipe Luis was signed from Atletico Madrid instead.
Lulic continues to be linked with several moves from Lazio and it looks as though he would be more than welcome by at least one player at Manchester City.
Edin Dzeko posted this picture of him and Lulic together on Instagram yesterday...
The Bosnian pair must have met up whilst Dzeko was in Rome helping City defeat Lazio's fierce rivals AS Roma, where former Chelsea star Cole now plies his trade, in the Champions League.
Unfortunately for Lulic, he is unlikely to get a move to City any time soon with plenty of options on the left-hand side for Manuel Pellegrini.
