The Frenchman has been recalled because of an injury crisis at Arsenal.
Things did not really go to plan for Arsenal starlet Francis Coquelin since on his loan deal with SC Freiburg last summer.
The Frenchman was given to the Bundesliga side for a season long loan deal as they already had French team members and Arsene Wenger wanted to see if he could develop in the Bundesliga.
But it did not go according to plan for Coquelin. He was played out of position on the left-wing to begin with and ended the season out of the team. He was also declared one of the worst Bundesliga signings of the season. It was certainly not a jolly spell for the French under-21 international.
However his last loan spell was much more prolific. He joined Charlton Athletic at the start of November and put in some excellent performances for The Addicks.
His one month loan was so impressive in fact that Charlton and Arsenal agreed to extend until the end of December.
But Coquelin is now back with Arsenal. He was snapped in training with the team earlier today as Arsenal prepare to face Newcastle United in the Premier League.
With Aaron Ramsey, Jack Wilshere and Mikel Arteta all currently out of action injured he will provide extra cover in the midfield area. Arsenal also have a defensive problem, with Nacho Monreal and Laurent Koscielny injured and Calum Chambers suspended. Coquelin, who can also play at left or right back, will also provide essential cover in those areas.
Arsenal will hope he can replicate his form at Charlton rather than Freiburg now he is back at the club early.
