Liverpool are expected to try and sign a goalkeeper in the January transfer window and 22-year-old Mattia Perin is believed to be on their shortlist.
Simon Mignolet is under pressure at Anfield and Liverpool have been linked with Chelsea's Petr Cech, Stoke's Asmir Begovic and Fiorentina star Neto.
But another option is Perin, who has represented Italy at every age from Under-17 to senior level, and has impressed with his performances for Serie A side Genoa.
It is believed that Genoa would only consider selling Perin for around £12 million - a sum that may put off potential suitors, but Liverpool's interest has been confirmed, although they may have to wait until the summer.
"I would like him to stay in Italy, but only foreign clubs can meet the asking price.
"I think that he will complete this season at Genoa and England is a possibility. There has been contact with Liverpool."
