Nottingham Forest's Jamaal Lascelles not concerned with Newcastle United switch

Nottingham Forest defender Jamaal Lascelles is blocking out thoughts about his impending move to Newcastle United.

Jamaal Lascelles says he is not letting himself be distracted over his eventual move to Newcastle United.

The Nottingham Forest defender agreed a deal to sign for the Premier League side in the summer, but like teammate and goalkeeper Karl Darlow, he was sent back on loan.

Unlike Darlow, Lascelles struggled to make an impact early in the season, with new signing Michael Mancienne impressing in central defence.

Injuries have seen him make his way into the side, and after a poor start upon his return to the team he believes he is showing an improvement.

Speaking about his current club, he told how he is not letting anything to do with the Newcastle deal affect his focus on Nottingham Forest.

He told the club website: "Forest is all I know really. I’ve come through the ranks, I’ve seen players come and go and I’ve seen the club do really well and not so well.

"I don’t think about other things. My aim is to help Forest get promotion, but I’m just taking things game by game."

There is a strong chance if Forest do clinch promotion, he could be loaned back out, while the club owner even spoke of him buying the defender back.

Newcastle will make a decision on him at the end of the season, he's currently not showing enough to convince them to try and renege on their original agreement and try to get him in earlier either.

His focus on Forest shows his dedication to the club, but promotion won't be easy; an up and down start to the season has left them in 10th, and Stuart Pearce's team need to show more consistency if they are to avoid missing out on their ultimate goal.
