Former Tottenham Hotspur midfielder and now Sky Sports expert Jamie Redknapp has predicted Manchester United and Liverpool to share the spoils in a 1-1 draw on Sunday.
The Red Devils host their rivals at Old Trafford in a match which could have a big effect on the race to finish in the top four of the Premier Leaue at the end of the season.
Brendan Rodgers’s side go into the encounter on the back of their disappointing Champions League exit at the hands of Basel, but Redknapp is backing them to bounce back with a positive result.
“The pressure is on United this weekend because everyone expects them to beat this Liverpool side. Rodgers would bite your hand off for a draw right now and I reckon he might just come away with one and stop United’s run of wins with a 1-1,” he told Sky Sports.
While a draw wouldn’t be a disaster for United, boss Louis van Gaal will be aiming for much more given their recent run of fine form.
The Old Trafford have won the last five games on the spin, their best run of form since last becoming Premier League winners in the 2012/13 season.
Despite not playing as fluently as they would like, away victories over Southampton and Arsenal have proven that the United have a sturdiness side to their game which will wield positive results.
The Reds, on the other hand, have struggled both defensively and from an attacking perspective as they sit ninth in the league table with just six wins from 15 matches.
However, a number of players who started the Reds’ terrific 3-0 win at Old Trafford last season will likely take to the field again on Sunday, and they will be keen to prove that it was no fluke result.
