Deila singles Scepovic out for praise, do the stats back him up?

The Celtic boss praised the striker's display after his Europa League brace.

Ronny Deila was delighted with Stefan Scepovic's performance last night, as Celtic lost 4-3 to Dinamo Zagreb in the Europa League.

The 24-year-old Serb was one of the Bhoys' few positives in Croatia, as he scored and hit the post, almost inspiring a second-half comeback for the Hoops.

And boss Deila was pleased with the forward's performance when speaking to reporters after the game.

Scepovic was standing in for John Guidetti, who was ineligible for the Europa League clash.

Statistically, meanwhile, Scepovic certainly contributed in Croatia (according to data taken from The 24-year-old striker made one key pass, won three aerial duels and hit the target with one of his three shots.

In fairness, Scepovic's stats give little away. But Deila can't be said to be wrong overall.

Our player ratings gave the forward a 7/10 last night: 'Scepovic did well up front, scoring once and was denied by the woodwork on another occasion. He seemed like he needed a partner alongside him to really flourish.'
