Barcelona striker Luis Suarez has said that Chelsea are among the favourites to win the Champions League title this season.
The former Liverpool striker netted Barca’s third goal in their final group stage 3-1 victory over French champions Paris Saint-Germain, assuring the Catalan giants of topping the group.
While his team have a devastating front-line, defensively the Nou Camp outfit aren’t the best and there doesn’t seem to be a great deal of balance running through side.
The same can’t be said for Jose Mourinho’s side, however, as the Blues cruised into the last 16 long before the final 3-1 group match victory over Sporting, remaining undefeated in the process.
The West Londoners boast quality and cohesion all over the pitch, prompting Suarez to label last year’s semi-finalists among the favourites to land Europe’s top prize when asked by reporters.
“Among the strong rivals are Bayern Munich, Real Madrid and Chelsea who are also a candidate [for the title],” he responded to the Spanish publication AS.
“There are others than can cause a surprise, besides I am of the opinion that the matches are for 90 minutes home and away and those that are in better shape coming off a good season will be favoured.”
The draw for the round of 16 takes place on Monday, and Mourinho has warned that there are a number of ‘sharks’ who could possibly cross his side’s path.
Juventus and Paris Saint-Germain – the Blues’ quarter-final opponents last season – are among those that the Stamford Bridge side will be hopeful of avoiding.
