Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger was the bearer of bad news at his Friday press conference.
He confirmed Laurent Koscielny and Aaron Ramsey will miss the weekend game against a resurgent Newcastle United.
Koscielny had missed the previous two games, and Wenger has admitted the Frenchman is struggling with a calf problem.
Just as bad a blow is Aaron Ramsey's injury. The Welshman was substituted at half-time against Galatasaray with a hamstring problem, and a scan this week provided news the club did not want to hear, despite the player's confidence the issue was not serious.
It's a tough break for Ramsey, who had just got back into form after his previous spell out, and had scored three times in his previous two games, including his stunning volley in Turkey.
With Calum Chambers suspended, Arsenal's defence will require a reshuffle, and they could even be forced to play Mathieu Debuchy at centre-back and Hector Bellerin on the right.
It's a far from ideal situation, and emphasises why the Gunners need to invest in reinforcements in January. Arsenal kept clean sheets in the two games when Koscielny returned, but conceded three at Stoke City without him.
