The group stage of the UEFA Youth League is now over and it’s good news for all of the English clubs involved.
Arsenal, Chelsea, Liverpool and Manchester City have all made it through to the next phase and here’s our summary of their final group games this week.
Liverpool 3-0 FC Basel
Liverpool’s under-19 side showed the seniors how it’s done with a comprehensive 3-0 win against their Swiss opponents. Goals from Ryan Kent and late strikes from Daniel Cleary and Jerome Sinclair ensured a comfortable game for the young Reds, with Basel’s frustrations compounded by a late red card.
Galatasaray 1-3 Arsenal
Arsenal breezed past their Turkish opponents although they were given a fright when they went behind in just the eighth minute. Credit to the young Gunners, they stuck to their task and got back into the match when Stephy Mavididi drew them level.
Tyrell Robinson and Aaron Eyoma both bagged goals as Arsenal stretched into a two goal lead and defended it well.
Chelsea 6-0 Sporting Lisbon
Chelsea finished their group campaign in similar fashion to how they’ve played throughout; with some blistering attacking football. Dom Solanke bagged a hat-trick while the highly rated Jeremie Boga also got a brace, with Lamisha Musonda also getting onto the score sheet.
Chelsea scored more goals during the group stage than any other team in the competition.
Roma 0-4 Manchester City
Manchester City’s under-19 strolled to a win in Italy, before the senior side did the business in the Champions League.
City had to wait until the 71st minute for Bresant Celina to put them ahead before Jack Byrne, Thierry Ambrose and Brandon Barker all scored to give City a healthy advantage.
