Tottenham player ratings v Besiktas: Walker thrives, but Townsend and Soldado flop

Cenk Tosun's 59th-minute strike saw Tottenham Hotspur fall 1-0 at Besiktas to finish runners-up in Europa League Group C behind their Turkish opponents.

Michel Vorm 6/10 – The Turkish club’s erratic shooting gave him few troubles, in what was just his fourth appearance since the summer move from Swansea. Could do little about the goal.

Kyle Walker 7/10 – In his first competitive start since March, the England international delivered a more than encouraging outing, proving that his pace and stamina haven’t been affected too much with several trademark overlapping runs.

Younes Kaboul 5.5/10 – At fault for Tosun’s 59th-minute strike and didn’t look at all comfortable over the course of the night. Looks to have blown his chance of winning back his starting spot.

Vlad Chiriches 6/10 – Almost punished for a mistake inside the opening minutes but recovered from there to put in a decent performance. A better option than Kaboul at this point.

Danny Rose 6.5/10 – Gokhan Tore presented a tough challenge to defend but Rose dealt with him well, and even managed to venture forward with aplomb. The battle between him and Ben Davies for the starting left-back spot is tough to call.

Mousa Dembele 6/10 – Delivered a nice through ball to Soldado in the first-half but, other than a few driving runs, his influence on the match was insignificant.

Benjamin Stambouli 6/10 – A solid, if unspectacular, performance from the Frenchman, as he kept the things ticking over with some neat passing. Seems to be making a case for more Premier League minutes.

Andros Townsend 5/10 – Wasteful in possession and delivered no end product, before going missing during the final stages. Perhaps still not quite match fit, but this won’t have convinced Pochettino of his worth amid exit rumours.

Paulinho 6/10 – Provided a few decent moments with his passing but just wasn’t incisive enough. Not the impactful midfielder he was advertised as upon his arrival last summer.

Nacer Chadli 6.5/10 – Delivered a fantastic cross in to Soldado inside the first 10 minutes and looked dangerous throughout the first-half. His influence waned a bit as the match wore on but often looked like his side’s best chance of a goal.

Roberto Soldado 4.5/10 – A woeful night for the Spaniard, as he wasted chance after chance before being hauled off with 20 minutes to go. Doesn’t seem to have built on that recent goal.

Erik Lamela (Soldado 70) 6/10 – Showed the odd flash of skill in his cameo but made little impact.

Aaron Lennon (Paulinho 70) 6/10 – Couldn’t get himself in the game during his time on the pitch.

Etienne Capoue (Walker 76) 6/10 – See Lennon.
