Kyle Walker played 77 minutes as Tottenham lost to Besiktas, his first game of the season, while captain Younes Kaboul returned to the team after an absence.
Tottenham defender Kyle Walker made his long awaited return to the first team after missing the entire season so far.
The England international went straight back into his right-back role against Besiktas in the Europa League, only to see Spurs beaten 1-0, and lose out on finishing top of their Europa League group.
Walker's return was a real positive however, with boss Mauricio Pochettino alternating between Eric Dier, Kyle Naughton and Vlad Chiriches up until now.
The right-back had a relatively quiet game defensively, failing to make a single tackle or interception, completing 80 per cent of his passes.
He showed his attacking intent, making five crosses, two of which were successful, but was caught out for his part in Besiktas' goal.
Walker can be allowed a little rustiness, but Younes Kaboul received a far tougher time from Spurs fans for his slack defending.
His errors are highlighted even more by his surprise naming as club captain earlier this season. He has lost his place to Federico Fazio of late, and did little to help his cause against Besiktas.
Kaboul completed only 73 per cent of his passes, and was dispossessed of the ball three times, more than any other defender on the pitch.
Here's a look at how fans reacted to the displays of both players on Twitter...
3 things learnt from tonight, Dembele can only play as a number 10. we've missed Walker so much. Kaboul has got to go #THFC— Keater (@JasonKeatley) December 11, 2014
#thfc An impressive 75 minutes for Walker is one positive anyway. He should be ready for Newcastle on Wednesday.— The Tottenham Way (@TheTottenhamWay) December 11, 2014

Kaboul has to be sold in January along with Naughton, Adebayor and Paulinho. #THFC— Sam Lewis (@SammyBoy23) December 11, 2014
Kaboul is just happy to be there, like some window licker. That can only be reason why he keeps smiling when forwards run past him. #thfc— Dog (@scottdogconway) December 11, 2014
