Report: QPR and Swansea City target Kolbeinn Sigthorsson extends Ajax contract

Ajax

Kolbeinn Sigthorsson has extended his contract with Ajax, despite interest from QPR and Swansea.

Both Premier League clubs attempted to sign the forward over the summer transfer window, but no deal could be agree with Eredivisie champions Ajax.

The Icelandic striker has previously been linked with moves to Newcastle United and Liverpool, and although his goalscoring record has diminished during his spell with Ajax, Sigthorsson still has netter 33 goals in 92 competitive games and has won three consecutive Eredivise titles with the side.

Having rejected a move to England over the summer, the striker was still considered an in demand target for a number of clubs heading into the January transfer window, and QPR and Swansea were set to reignite their interest in the 24-year-old as they looked to strengthen their attacking forces with a renowned consistent goalscorer.

Any interested parties would also have been able to agree a pre-contract with Sigthorsson in January, with his contract set to expire at the close of this campaign, but it has been announced by the official Ajax website that the forward has agreed a one-year extension to his current deal - keeping him at the club until June 2016.

The R’s and Swansea may still attempt to prise the player to the Premier League at the turn of the year, but his £4.8 million value may have increased due to the extra year added to his contract.
