River Plate won the Copa Sudamericana final on Wednesday night, defeating Atletico Nacional 2-0.
After a 17 year wait for a trophy, River Plate finally added more silverware to their cabinet on Wednesday night, defeating Colombian side Atletico Nacional 2-0 thanks to goals from Gabriel Mercado and German Pezzella.
A comfortable win in front of their own fans came just a week after a 1-1 draw in the first leg of the Copa Sudamericana final.
The victory gave players the chance to get their hands on a trophy, including reported Tottenham target Teofilo Gutierrez, who was facing a club from his native Colombia.
The 29-year-old centre forward is allegedly interesting Spurs boss Mauricio Pochettino, having scored around a goal every other game for the Argentine giants.
Gutierrez is famously something of a 'loose cannon', having been involved a number of controversial incidents on and off the field.
However, he's put those incidents behind him to enjoy a decent World Cup campaign, and has now followed that up with a trophy to round off the year.
2015 could yet see him arrive in North London, and Spurs fans will be hoping that he gets his hands on more silverware if he does end up making the move to Tottenham.
