Tottenham Hotspur midfielder Paulinho has stressed team work is the best way for the club to get a result against Besiktas later today.
The Brazilian midfielder says the side is keen to finish top in their Europa League group ahead of the next round, believing a positive result is possible if everyone sticks together.
“We can win at Besiktas if we play well, if we work hard and if we help each other,” he told the club’s website.
“If we perform like we have done in the other games in Europe then we have a good chance of getting a result.”
Tottenham should be confident heading into the game because they hold a two point advantage over the Turkish side.
They have also had a rock solid defence in the competition so far, with only three goals conceded from group games to now, which is important heading into the later stages of the competition.
Paulinho is clever to stress a need for unity ahead of the game because it’s likely to be an intimidating atmosphere for the side to play in.
Besiktas, and Turkey in general, is one of the most difficult grounds for any team to go and play at.
“Finishing top of the table would be very good for us and after that we will see which team we will play against in the next round.”
Momentum is everything in any cup tournament and if Spurs can end the group stage with a victory and come through the match with no serious injury problems, it sets them up well heading into their next Premier League game.
Spurs will also need a little bit of luck but it’s important for them to try and finish first because it would mean a more favourable draw, hopefully with favourable travelling, ahead of an important second half to the campaign.
