Gonzalo Higuain Argentina

On the 11th December 2013 what were the stories that dominated the football landscape? Including Arsenal and Chelsea.

Let's cast our eyes back to this exact day, the 11th December 2014, but a year earlier.

What were the main tales from that day? What big events were happening in Premier League football?

Here are some of the big scoops from the 11th December 2013…

No talks for Higuain

A year ago today and Argentine striker Gonzalo Higuain was making it clear that he never came close to joining Arsenal in the summer of 2013.

The striker, who ended up joining Napoli in a €40 million deal, was reportedly a target for Arsenal before Arsene Wenger switched his attention to Luis Suarez.

However Higuain insisted he was happy with his move from Real Madrid to Napoli and that he never even spoke to Arsenal over a potential move:

"Yes [Arsenal wanted me]. But I did not speak to them. They said Arsenal wanted to sign me, that they were there negotiating [with Real Madrid], but it was Napoli who came and bought me."

It came on the same day as Higuain scored in a 2-0 win for Napoli over Arsenal.

Zooming in for Zouma

A year ago today and it was being reported that Chelsea were eyeing up a bid for Saint-Etienne defender Kurt Zouma.

The deal, rumoured to be in the £13 million region, would see them go into competition with Arsenal and Manchester City.

But Chelsea were confident of completing the deal, which they did in January.

He signed for £12 million in January, spending the rest of the season on loan in France, before joining up with the team this summer.
