Nintendo's amiibo selling out, ramping up prices

Nintendo Amiibo Wave Three And Four

Wii Fit Trainer is being sold at £31.99 and Villager at £55.99 on Amazon.

The waves of amiibo figures due for release in January and February next year are already selling out.

Looking at the Nintendo Store you can see characters such as Shulk, Meta Knight, and King Dede are shown as 'sold out', but they're not even due to launch until 20th February 2015.

Some first wave amiibo figures such as Yoshi, Donkey Kong, Marth, Villager, and Wii Fit Trainer are also sold out, along with Little Mac who's a second wave figure.

Nintendo said this week that the less popular amiibo figures would be discontinued "due to shelf space contraints".

Eurogamer reports that over on Amazon you can see some of the sold out amiibo are being sold way above the lower price of £10 - Wii Fit Trainer is going for £31.99, and Villagers being sold for £55.99, for example.

A Nintendo spokesperson explained to Eurogamer:

"Nintendo of Europe would like to confirm that supplies of Amiibo are currently available in the European market. Amiibo have been very popular at launch and as such its always possible that a few retailers may have sold out.

"We are continually aiming to always have a regular supply of Amiibo brought into the marketplace and there are many waves of Amiibo to come."
