Valdez left La Liga at the close of the last campaign, leaving Barcelona for the first time in his career.
Unfortunately for the 32-year-old, he suffered a season ending injury in the last month of the campaign, ruling out a glamorous exit from Camp Nou, and all-but ending any chance of the Spanish international stopper signing with a new club over the summer.
Ligue 1 side AS Monaco agreed a deal with Valdes, before pulling out when his injury troubles became too long-standing, and he had been linked with a switch to the Premier League following the collapse of the move to France. Liverpool were said to be interested in him as a replacement for the struggling Simon Mignolet, although no deal was ever completed and the ‘keeper has since started training with former Barcelona coach Louis van Gaal at Manchester United.
Van Gaal was said to be keen on tying the star down to a full-time deal when his recovery was complete, and the 32-year-old has been seen in first-team training with Red Devils first-choice stopper - and Spanish teammate - David De Gea. However, as of yet no deal has been completed, and Sky Sports Italia have reported that Valdes is keen on leaving England for Italy - and has already made contact with Serie A champions Juventus over a potential switch.
Valdes’s family are said to be unhappy with the English lifestyle, and the stopper is keen on moving to Turin in the coming months. Having already made contact with the club, any decision is up to them, and, with Gianluigi Buffon’s contract recently extended to 2017, they may struggle to decide upon signing a goalkeeper who has a real vision for consistent first-team football.
