It is official, Jenson Button is confirmed as one of the two seats at McLaren Honda for the upcoming season. He is joined by Fernando Alonso, with Button signing a two-year deal to remain at the team.
It comes at the end of a long and protracted decision making process from the Woking based side over who to take on with Alonso next season.
In the end it came down to a straight choice between Button or former team-mate Kevin Magnussen. The choise is now evident.
Magnussen stays with the team, as a test driver and reserve to the main pairing, and he has conducted himself well throughout this process.
There is little doubt that in time he too will be back on the F! starting grid.
Button clearly sympathises with his old team-mate. But he has no doubt about his future. Taking to Twitter this afternoon Button insisted that Magnussen would soon be back in Formula 1:
