The former world champions will partner Fernando Alonso for the team next season.
Lewis Hamilton is champion and the Formula 1 season is over. But that now means the team line-ups for next season must be sorted.
The decision of Sebastian Vettel to switch Red Bull for Ferrari has of course shook things up a bit. That decision has seen Fernando Alonso make the move to McLaren but the Woking based team are still dithering over who should be his partner.
They had a straight choice between former world champion Jenson Button and the Dane Kevin Magnusson, but they have been keeping F1 fans waiting to discover if one of the sport's most popular men is guaranteed a seat for next season.
Now it has been confirmed that Jenson Button will remain with McLaren for the upcoming season. He will join Alonso in a dream team consisting of two former world champions.
This means two teams, Ferrari and McLaren will have two former world driver champions in their main seats for next season.
Button reportedly agreed to stay with McLaren last night, with the announcement coming today.
As usual the Englishman showcased his excellent sense of humour to highlight the news on Twitter, posting this blasé Tweet on the matter just as the news was breaking earlier...
Just woken up, what's going on?!— Jenson Button (@JensonButton) December 11, 2014
It is good to have Button sticking with F1 for at least two more seasons. The paddock would not be the same without him.
