The former defender and current Sky Sports pundit has been discussing Newcastle United's defence.
Jamie Carragher believes Newcastle are much stronger in defence than in the past.
And therein is the key difference between Newcastle sides historically and their current one, according to the Sky Sports pundit.
Carragher believes the Magpies used to get exposed far more often, instead now defending as a team and enjoying plenty of success on the counter-attack.
"They have a way of playing at the moment that has proved very successful: they defend deep and play on the counter-attack and it is causing teams a lot of problems," the 36-year-old wrote in his regular Sky Sports column.
"They have great pace in there and with them defending so deep and so organised, it obviously helps their defensive record, because when they get exposed it is obviously a problem for them.
"I think we have seen that in the past with Newcastle teams but now they look like they are defending as a team and they are a big threat on the counter-attack."
