Tottenham manager Mauricio Pochettino has so far been unable to settle on a first choice back four, and with the likes of Kyle Naughton, Vlad Chiriches and Jan Vertonghen all linked with January exits, it seems that Pochettino may be looking to bring in defenders, too.
Centre backs such as Hector Moreno and Raul Albiol have been suggested as possible targets for the Argentine, whilst right back could also be an issue.
Kyle Walker is finally back from injury, but Eric Dier is more of a centre half whilst DeAndre Yedlin may still stay out on loan with Seattle Sounders.
As a result, reports in Italy suggest that Pochettino will look to bring Sassuolo right back Sime Vrsaljko to White Hart Lane in January.
The 22-year-old only joined the Serie A side from Genoa this summer, but speculation is rife that they will already look to sell him on next month, with big clubs eyeing up his services.
Juventus are believed to be leading the race for his signature, but Tottenham may well be able to call upon one of their former stars to swing the deal in their favour.
Vrsaljko is an international team mate of ex-Spurs midfielder Luka Modric, and the Real Madrid playmaker would no doubt recommend a move to North London over signing for Juventus, where he would probably play as second fiddle to Stephan Lichtsteiner.
With Tottenham also allegedly interested in signing Rijeka striker Andrej Kramaric, they may be hoping that Modric will put in a good word for them with a number of players - and given Modric's superb stint at White Hart Lane, it may just convince other Croatians to follow in his footsteps.
