Celtic midfielder Stefan Johansen has said that he would like to face Liverpool in the round of 32 of the Europa League this season.
While the Bhoys have ‘progressed’ to the knockout stages of the competition, Premier League outfit Liverpool have ‘dropped’ to the last-32 after finishing third in the Champions League Group B.
“I wasn’t much of an armchair fan myself, but my family are all big Liverpool fans,” The Scotsman quotes the 23-year-old as saying. “I have two uncles and some cousins who are crazy for Liverpool.
“With Liverpool now dropping out of the Champions League into the Europa League, it would be special for them if Celtic could play Liverpool at some stage.
"They’ve already told me they will come over to both games, although I’m not sure who they would support.”
Celtic playing Liverpool in the round of 32 is certainly going to make the Europa League that much more interesting.
In years gone by, the competition has not been taken seriously by Europe’s bigger clubs, but things are different this time.
The winners of the Europa League stand a chance of playing in the Champions League next season, and given Liverpool’s ongoing struggles in the Premier League, they will be determined to give it a go in Europe.
