Celtic player ratings: Bitton sensational, Scepovic shows promise

Celtic lost 4-3 in an entertaining clash with Dinamo Zagreb.

If Celtic were going to lose to Dinamo Zagreb, at least it was entertaining.

The Scottish side were defeated 4-3 by the Croatians, unable to end their Europa League campaign on a high note.

Here are our player ratings for Celtic's starting XI from the contest:

Craig Gordon - 7

The Scottish international goalkeeper will be disappointed to have conceded four, but managed to save six shots to help keep the scoreline down.

Adam Matthews - 5

Matthews was substituted early in the second half after a disappointing display, and it put him out of his misery. He was error-prone and looked a shadow of his former self.

Virgil van Dijk - 7

Van Dijk was strong as ever, making seven interceptions - more than the rest of the Celtic team combined.

Efe Ambrose - 5

For the second Europa League game in succession, Ambrose looked like a weak link in defence, and Celtic need to get Jason Denayer back into the side.

Emilio Izaguirre - 6

Izaguirre looked shaky defensively, but did manage to do what Matthews didn't, and deliver a successful cross.

Nir Bitton - 9

Bitton was sensational in midfield, creating six goalscoring opportunities and providing two assists. He completed 97 per cent of his passes.

Stefan Johansen - 6

Johansen's job? To shield the defence. They conceded four, and all three shots he had personally landed off target.

Kris Commons - 7

Commons scored one and hit the woodwork, while creating two chances. In terms of being a playmaker he was overshadowed by Bitton, and he also found himself dispossessed six times.

Mubarak Wakaso - 6

Wakaso looked bright, but could not get into the game offensively, unable to make a decisive impact and was withdrawn with 15 minutes to go.

Callum McGregor - 6

McGregor completed only 21 passes in 62 minutes, and it was little surprise he was substituted. Dispossessed three times, this was a missed opportunity to impress.

Stefan Scepovic - 7

Scepovic did well up front, scoring once and was denied by the woodwork on another occasion. He seemed like he needed a partner alongside him to really flourish.
