Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger has dismissed speculation that Jack Wilshere has suffered a further setback in his effort to regain full fitness.
England international Wilshere is currently sidelined with an ankle injury which he suffered against Manchester United in November.
The 22-year-old is expected to return to competitive action in February, but there have been recent suggestions that he could be out for a longer period of time.
Wenger has now stated that Wilshere has not suffered any such setbacks and told Arsenal’s official website: “That’s completely wrong. He’s doing very well.
“He’s on crutches so I don’t see how he can have a setback. It’s frustrating because it’s hard enough for Jack to be injured.
“He doesn’t need the negative news on top of that. It’s always frustrating to deny things that are not true.”
Arsenal are currently sixth in the Premier League table with 23 points from 15 matches, four points behind fourth-placed West Ham United.
