Manchester United player Bebe finally had a season to remember for the right reasons during his loan spell at Pacos de Ferreira.
It was there that the player who United surprisingly signed for a reported £7.4million finally showed what he is capable of, scoring 14 goals and being suggested for a World Cup call-up.
The latter proved nothing more than a dream, but Bebe's form on loan earned him a permanent move from United to Primeira Liga champions Benfica.
For £2.4million, Jorge Jesus's side had signed a player who seemingly knew how to score in Portugal's top flight and was finally set to justify his price-tag.
But things have not gone according to plan this season, with Bebe failing to make a single appearance in the league and being excluded from the match-day squad altogether on the last six occasions.
Bebe's only senior appearances since leaving United permanently have come in the Portuguese Cup and in the Champions League (featuring just 23 minutes in the latter competition).
That was until Tuesday night, when Bebe started the match against German side Bayer Leverkusen. So how did things go?
Well, as you can see from the Opta statistics below, it did not go well.
|Passing Accuracy||Key Passes||Shots||Shots on Target||On-target Shooting Accuracy||Dribbles||Mins Played|
The former United player had a passing accuracy of just 42 per cent, which is nothing short of woeful, while he failed to hit the target with any of his three efforts on goal.
He did go on six dribbles and play one key pass but that was the sum total of his positive contributions, with Benfica boss Jesus surely no closer to giving him a regular starting berth based on this showing.
In fact if anything he could now be further away than ever, which is a real shame for a player who was never likely to make it at United but who showed at a smaller club just what he can do when played consistently and allowed to build faith in himself.
