Tottenham Hotspur defender Benjamin Stambouli has insisted that his side are determined to win against Besiktas in the Europa League on Thursday.
The North London outfit are already assured of a place in the round of 32 of the European competition, and will win Group C with a draw in Istanbul.
“I think it’s a good challenge for us to go to Besiktas and to play for first place,” Tottenham’s official website quotes the Frenchman as saying.
“The Europa League is a very good competition, we play against good teams and you know it’s always going to be a tough game
“We have the possibility to show what Tottenham are able to do, but we know we have to be solid. It’s always a pleasure to play in these games and we are looking forward to playing away to Besiktas.”
Stambouli’s approach to the game against Besiktas is laudable, and something that Tottenham should adopt when heading into each and every competitive match.
Following their goalless draw with Crystal Palace at the White Hart Lane in the Premier League on Saturday, a few Tottenham players claimed that they were happy with just a point and with a clean sheet.
That attitude is not acceptable for a team trying to break into the top four and play Champions League football.
Playing against Besiktas in Istanbul is a daunting proposition for any team and Tottenham manager Mauricio Pochettino will probably not field his best players, but they need to take a positive approach to the game.
