One of Arsenal's debutants against Galatasaray has been talking about the experience.

Arsenal defender Stefan O’Connor has been speaking following his senior debut for the club.

The 17-year-old centre-back came on for the last 13 minutes of Arsenal’s Champions League group game against Galatasaray and he spoke about how it felt to play alongside German international Per Mertesacker.

In an interview with Arsenal’s official website, the teenager said of his experienced teammate, “He encouraged me a lot. When I made a mistake or if I did something well, he just encouraged me.

“It’s a dream come true. I would never have thought that at 17, I would be making my debut for the first-team in the Champions League. Words can’t explain it.”

O’Connor had previously made eight appearances for Arsenal’s under-21 side this season, along with five UEFA Youth League outings.

But having turned out against the Turkish side’s youngsters in a 5-1 victory earlier this year, he has now faced their senior side, enjoying a similarly emphatic score-line.
