PHOTO: James Ward-Prowse watches Southampton youngsters win FA Youth Cup tie

Southampton's youngsters defeated West Ham last night, with a first-teamer in presence.

In recent years the Southampton academy has produced some of the best talents in the country and the world. Adam Lallana has proven himself to be a real star for England, even if his club struggles at Liverpool continue. Calum Chambers is a raw but exciting prospect now at Arsenal. Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain and Theo Walcott are international and club favourites for England and Arsenal. Meanwhile Luke Shaw and Gareth Bale are now the most expensive teenager and most expensive players in the world respectively.

Of course one problem is the fact they all seem to have left.

Now the club is relying on the likes of promising talents such as Harrison Reed, Sam Gallagher and Matt Targett to follow in the footsteps of these great talents. Oh, and of course, James Ward-Prowse. With a set-piece proficiency to rival David Beckham's the youngster is a big part of the future at St Marys.

Yesterday he was taking more notice of the players still waiting to burst onto the scene, as Southampton impressed in the FA Youth Cup.

They defeated West Ham, themselves with a proud record of producing great young talent thanks to a Dan Demkiv goal and a wonderful strike from 15-year-old Callum Slattery.

Here's hoping there lies a few more gems in this current Southampton crop.
