During the PlayStation Experience last weekend we got to see the first gameplay footage from the upcoming PS4 exclusive, Uncharted 4: A thief’s End. Also appearing at the event were artists from Uncharted developer, Naughty Dog, who went into how they’ve been working to make the game’s lead Nathan Drake look more realistic than ever before.
As you can see in the comparison picture above, Drake’s come a long way in terms of photorealism from the last title, Uncharted 3: Drake’s Deception. While he’s clearly showing signs of ageing, Drake is a whole lot more human in appearance and consequently looks like a new man.
This has all been achieved by higher fidelity 3D modelling, new physically based shaders and improved lighting. Naughty Dog has also been able to render more realistic hair, including stubble and chest hair, and can even animate the way veins and muscles move with a much higher sense of realism.
