Manchester City latest: Early team news; Begiristain meets Atletico supremo

All the latest news, views and transfer rumours from the Etihad…

Manchester City take on Roma this evening in their final Champions League group game of the season.

Manuel Pellegrini’s men are currently bottom of Group E but they can still qualify for the knock-out stages if they defeat the Italian side in their own back yard.

In early team news, the BBC reports that Vincent Kompany and David Silva face late fitness tests but City are definitely without striker Sergio Aguero.

The Argentina international has suffered knee ligament damage and is out for four to six weeks.

Or make that eight if you believe a report in the Independent, which suggests City’s main goal-scorer is out for the next two months.

In other news, Sport Witness has picked up on claims from Spanish newspaper Marca that City’s director of football Txiki Begiristain was seen meeting with Atletico Madrid president Enrique Cerezo.

It has been suggested that City are keeping tabs on a number of Atletico players and the meeting could have had something to do with that. Then again they could have been simply catching up.
