Liverpool battled well but a 1-1 draw wasn't enough for them against Basel in the Champions League.
Liverpool fans are dealing with the reality this morning that they aren’t through to the last 16 of the Champions League and now face a spell playing on Thursday nights in the Europa League.
The Reds battled hard throughout the group stage but a 1-1 draw against Basel last night wasn’t enough to get them over the line.
Here are our player ratings for the match.
Mignolet – 6
Couldn’t get near the ball for Basel’s goal and occasionally looked flustered under pressure.
Johnson – 5
Rather subdued, which was surprising considering the occasion. He’ll be determined to do more.
Lovren – 6
A decent performance. He looked assured of himself and showed determination, which was lacking in other players.
Skrtel – 7
Played well against some versatile and talented attacking players. His positional awareness meant he could get plenty of blocks in.
Enrique – 5
Has probably set himself back slightly in terms of making the left-back role his own. Routinely targeted.
Lucas – 5
Patrolled the space in front of the defence well but he’s never going to be the creative player who wins games.
Allen – 5
A very tidy player but Basel bullied him off the ball physically on too many occasions.
Sterling – 6
One of the side’s biggest attacking threats but he needs to work hard on his end product.
Gerrard – 7
Grabbed the side by the scruff of the neck when they needed it and did his best to get Liverpool through by himself.
Henderson – 5
Not his normal self because he was playing in an unfamiliar position. He needs a settled role in a settled position.
Lambert – 4
Some of the crowd started to get on his back, it just wasn’t his night. Struggled to hold the ball up and get touches.
Markovic – 4
A needless sending off which made a difficult task even tougher.
Moreno – 5
Provided balance and a little more calm at the back, which was important.
