Former Tottenham Hotspur and Liverpool midfielder Jamie Redknapp believes that Arsenal’s performance against Stoke City on Saturday was “embarrassing”.
The Gunners lost the Premier League clash 3-2 at the Britannia Stadium and could have suffered a heavier defeat.
Arsenal were 3-0 down at half time, thanks to goals from Peter Crouch, Bojan Krkic and Jonathan Walters, but they stepped up their game in the second half to score twice and bring some respectability to the scoreline.
Arsene Wenger’s players were all over the place in the first half, which was one of their worst this season, leading Redknapp to strongly criticise them.
“The result at the weekend was to an extent an embarrassing performance,” he told Sky Sports. “They were bullied again and it strikes me as the same thing time after time with Arsenal.”
Redknapp made the comments before Arsenal’s Champions League Group D clash against Galatasaray on Tuesday.
The North London outfit did give a good account of themselves in Istanbul, scoring four goals and conceding one as they finished runners-up in the group.
Many of Arsenal’s first-team players were rested against Galatasaray, who were already out of the Champions League anyway.
Now Arsenal fans will hope that the players can take the performance against Galatasaray into the Premier League game against Newcastle United at the Emirates Stadium on Saturday.
