Gary Neville has joked about his goal-scoring record during his time at Manchester United.
The former right-back made 583 appearances for United but despite his stellar service and outstanding performances on the right side of defence, he was rarely one to snatch a goal.
While he played alongside some defenders who made it a habit to pop up at the opposite end of the pitch, including Nemanja Vidic and Jaap Stam, Neville was usually the player who stayed back at corners and free-kicks, acting as defensive cover rather than a potential threat in the box.
In total Neville netted just seven times for United, so when the club's official website hosted their usual quiz on Wednesday afternoon, asking which player had scored the most Premier League goals as a defender with 18, the Sky pundit was quick to suggest himself.
In truth he was well short of that total but at least he can make light of his goal-scoring exploits. When you are that good as a right-back, you do not need to be dangerous in the opposing area.
