Sources from Italy are suggesting that Manchester United are working on their first offer for Roma midfielder Kevin Strootman.
The Dutch midfielder is thought to be one of Louis van Gaal’s main transfer priorities this January and CM claims he’ll be the first player that the United boss targets once the transfer window opens on January 1.
The logic in working on an offer before the window is that it will save United time in what could be a complicated transfer process.
It’s difficult for any side to do business in the middle of a season and the selling club hold the advantage because the window is only open for one month.
United are also disadvantaged because they flexed their financial muscles during the summer to secure big deals, which led to suggestions that the club could be held to ransom over future transfer dealings.
However, regardless of the likely high cost of any winter deal for Strootman, he has the potential to provide United with an injection of quality in a key area as they look to secure a top four place and get back into the Champions League.
