Manchester United are reportedly in pole position for Benfica midfielder Enzo Perez. That is the claim of Talk Sport following an initial report from Spanish publication Super Deporte.

The Argentina international has a £23.5million release-clause and his versatility, talent and experience would make him an ideal signing for Louis van Gaal’s side. But reports at the weekend claimed Valencia owner Peter Lim was in Lisbon to negotiate a deal for the player.

However the latest story claims United are back at the front of the queue after the Spanish side were “put off” by his price-tag and are attempting to negotiate it down.

Given that his release-clause is public knowledge it remains to be seen how much truth there is in that claim, but the longer Perez is linked to United the more a January move makes sense given the club’s need to strengthen in midfield areas.

In other news, the Daily Star claims United midfielder Daley Blind should make his return from injury in the Boxing Day fixture against Newcastle United.

The Netherlands international has been out of action since suffering a knee injury while on international duty.  But the latest claim is that the summer signing has been pencilled in for a return on December 26 by van Gaal.
