Liverpool must beat the Swiss side at Anfield if they are to qualify for the knock-out stages of this season’s competition; but considering how their campaign has gone to date, manager Brendan Rodgers and his players could be in for a nervy night against a side who always give English sides a tough game.
Speaking to Liverpool’s official website, the former centre-back said, “I think Liverpool will start very strong with a fast pace and it will be an electric atmosphere at Anfield.
“It’s important that Liverpool take the game by the scruff of the neck because Basel can play. If you let them play, they can keep the ball and they have got a few good players who can hurt you, especially up front.”
Liverpool looked like they had turned a corner after recent victories against Stoke City and Leicester City but they were held 0-0 at home to Sunderland on Saturday and they will need to do better when they face the Swiss club, who will know a point or more of their own will see them qualify along with group-winners Real Madrid.
