Jan Age Fjortoft comments on Manchester United boss Louis van Gaal’s January plans

Angry Louis van Gaal

Former Sheffield United and Middlesbrough forward Jan Age Fjortoft says that Manchester United have no defenders at the moment.

Manchester United manager Louis van Gaal has claimed that he does not need to sign any defenders in the January transfer window.

“When you have injuries you cannot solve the problem otherwise," The London Evening Standard quotes the Dutchman as saying. ”Do we have to buy players? No. We have more than enough.”

Van Gaal’s comments have left many surprised. After all, it has been pointed out by one and all that United need to sign at least one world-class defender.

United do have numbers at the back, but most of them are young and inexperienced or simply are not good enough.

The likes of Chris Smalling, Jonny Evans and Phil Jones are hardly household names, while Tyler Blackett and Paddy McNair made their debuts only this season.

Former Sheffield United and Middlesbrough forward Jan Age Fjortoft, who is now a well-known Bundesliga expert, has now given his take on Van Gaal’s comments.

It is a bit harsh from Fjortoft, especially when one considers United’s recent record. The Red Devils have won their last five Premier League matches, conceding just three goals in that run.
