Manchester United made it five consecutive wins last night as they overcame Southampton 2-1 at St Mary's last night, leapfrogging the Saints in the process as United went third in the Premier League.
Two goals from Robin Van Persie gave Louis Van Gaal's side all three points over Ronald Koeman's men in what was an unconvincing performance from United, something which van Gaal mentioned after the game, whilst Koeman suggested that Southampton beat themselves last night with two costly errors and failing to take chances.
Van Persie capitalised on a poor Jose Fonte back pass to give United a first half lead before Graziano Pelle equalised for the home side, but chances for Shane Long and Pelle came and went before Van Persie struck again, and again it was a soft goal for the Saints to concede.
For the Saints, after a promising start to the season, it was their third successive defeat which leaves them in fifth place in the Premier League with plenty to ponder as they look to bounce back in the coming weeks.
