Ex-Arsenal flop Gervinho: I’m not out for revenge on English football

Gervinho

Gervinho has enjoyed a renaissance at Roma, but he insists that he doesn't harbour any ill will towards those who doubted him in the Premier League.

Gervinho was much maligned at Arsenal but he has become a new man at Roma and could be a serious threat to Manchester City.

The Ivorian forward never managed to produce his best form for Arsenal and few Gunners fans were disappointed to see him leave in August 2013.

Since then, however, Gervinho has found his shooting boots and has tormented Serie A defences with his pace, vision and finishing.

The 27-year-old will be one of Roma's key men against Man City in a crucial all or nothing Champions League clash at the Stadio Olimpico, but he claims he isn't motivated by revenge.

"Even though I do have history with the Premier League, the game against Man City is motivation in its own right," Gervinho told a press conference.

"We want to progress in the Champions League and that is what matters.

"Even if this game had been against Arsenal it wouldn't have been about revenge for me."

Gervinho has bemoaned Arsene Wenger's lack of trust in him in the past and he could be forgiven for wanting to send a message to football fans in England that he was unfairly criticised during his Arsenal spell.
