Sunderland striker Connor Wickham has tweeted following the news that he has signed a new contract at the Stadium of Light.
The 21-year-old's previous deal expired this summer and it had been suggested that he could move on as a free-agent rather than put pen to paper. However, Black Cats fans can now breathe easy after the forward committed to the club until 2019.
The news was announced on Sunderland's official website on Tuesday afternoon and Wickham quickly took to social media to express his joy.
"Glad to have signed a new deal at Sunderland," he wrote. "Thanks to everybody involved."
Wickham has scored three goals and provided one assist so far this season and with his future now resolved Sunderland manager Gus Poyet will be hoping he can swiftly add to that tally.
