Saints star Jay Rodriguez has had to sit back and watch as his club have surpassed everyone's expectations in the Premier League so far this season.
The 25-year-old has been sidelined since April after rupturing his cruciate knee ligament against Manchester City, while in the mean time Southampton have brought in a new manager and built a very impressive new squad.
Ronald Koeman's side have been flying high throughout Rodriguez's absence, but have been brought crashing back down to earth recently after losing three matches on the trot against Arsenal, City and Manchester United last night.
Despite the recent bad run of results, the forward took to Twitter to tell fans that the club are still in a good position in the league and gave them the encouraging news that he is starting to pick up his fitness work.
Hi Folks, tough few games for @SouthamptonFC but still looking good. I'm just starting to pick things up and restart the engine. Positive— Jay Rodriguez (@JayRodriguez9) December 9, 2014
Rodriguez's tweet was well received by Southampton supporters and it quickly prompted some of his followers to encourage the goal-scorer to pledge his future to the club by signing a new contract. Others also tweeted their excitement at the prospect of seeing him partnering new Italian target man Graziano Pelle in attack.
Saints fans hopefully won't have to wait too much longer to see the England international back in action as a recent Daily Mirror report claimed that Rodriguez is aiming to return to first team football in January.
If he does return it would be perfect timing for Koeman's side who lose both Sadio Mane and Emmanuel Mayuka to the African Cup of Nations tournament.
