Tottenham Hotspur defender Jan Vertonghen has been speaking following the club’s 0-0 draw with Crystal Palace on Saturday.
The Belgian international is forming a promising defensive partnership with summer signing Federico Fazio, but it is another Tottenham player that Vertonghen reserved special praise for.
In an interview with the club’s official website, the centre-back said, “We all know Hugo (Loris) is an exceptional goalkeeper and he made some great saves.”
He certainly did and Palace will count themselves very unlucky that they did not leave White Hart Lane with all three points.
But Tottenham’s back-line will be proud of their efforts, both the defenders and the goalkeeper who is so highly rated by Vertonghen and his fellow Spurs stars.
There is a lot of work for manager Mauricio Pochettino to do in the weeks and months ahead, but at least he can start to build on more solid foundations.
If Spurs’ strikers can now start firing at the other end, and the manager persists with a settled back-four, the second half of the campaign could be considerably more promising than the first.
