Tottenham Hotspur were expected to win against Crystal Palace at White Hart Lane on Saturday, but they did not.
Instead, Spurs were held to a goalless draw by the Eagles and fell further behind in the race for a top-four finish in the Premier League.
Reflecting on the match, defender Ben Davies said, according to The London Evening Standard: “At the beginning of the game, we were looking to get three points but, as the game wore on, I think we were trying to get the clean sheet after soaking up some pressure, and we’ll take the point.”
So you are playing at home against a side struggling for survival in the Premier League, and all you want is to keep a clean sheet and pick up a point?
This is not certainly what Tottenham fans would want to hear and is certainly not what is expected of a side with good players trying to qualify for next season’s Champions League.
Perhaps Davies’s comments underline the main problem at Tottenham: lack of ambition. Year after years Spurs have struggled to break into the top four; maybe the players do not believe in themselves enough.
