The Liverpool squad's relaxed demeanor on Monday night belied what awaits them at Anfield tomorrow.
This will be their first make-or-break European night for some years - and failure to win will produce an anti-climax that will flatten all hope that the Reds were at the start of another special journey when they qualified for the Champions League last season.
As Liverpool's players trained ahead of tomorrow night's do-or-die clash with FC Basel, Steven Gerrard and Raheem Sterling, in particular, were full of smiles. Whether that was out of genuine calm and relaxation or purely for the cameras, we will know tomorrow.
"The players here are totally committed. In Basel our defending was a bit soft and we lacked a bit of confidence. That was one of the games in the period that was a learning curve for us," Liverpool boss Brendan Rodgers told reporters during his pre-match press conference ahead of training.
"We go into tomorrow in a much better mindset than back in September and even from just a couple of weeks ago.
"Basel may come and put men behind the ball as we know they only need a draw but again if we keep patient we can get the result we need.
"We know we don't need to win the game in the first minutes. It's technical and tactical. We have to retain our patience, keep concentration and focus, and aligned with the supporters' passion, we have a great chance."
